These days, most fashion designers are on the go and working on the go. And it’s more important now than ever to find ways to maximize your productivity, particularly when you are a team of 1.
Fortunately, fashion technology continues to evolve, and you have several options when it comes to fashion design apps that will help you be as productive as possible. What I find exciting is that each of the apps I mention below can be accessed on an iPad, which is so much more convenient to use when you’re on the go. Even more exciting (and efficient) is that most sync with the cloud so you can easily access your work when you return to working on the desktop.
Here’s a list of some of the best fashion design apps for the iPad:
Ideation
1. Vogue Runway
2. Pinterest
3. Adobe Capture
4. Notes
Fashion Design Drawing
5. Pret-à-Template
6. Adobe Fresco
7. Adobe Photoshop
8. Procreate
9. Autodesk Sketchbook
Technical Sketches and Fashion Tech Packs
10. Adobe Illustrator
Note that most of these apps are for design development, not production. And what is design development? This is when fashion designers are most involved, when they create the seasonal concept and design the line based around that concept. Once you start to involve PLM systems, even some tech pack programs, they no longer work well (or work at all) on a tablet and you have to go back to working on a desktop or laptop computer.
But there is a LOT that can be done as a fashion designer on a tablet now, much more than what was possible 10, even 5 years ago, so I have no doubt that in another 5 years, some of these programs that don’t work now on a tablet will be operative. Fingers crossed!
